  • A: The city offers weekly recyclable pickups and the schedule can be found here. All metal, glass and paper products are recyclable. Plastics designed 1,2 and 6 are also recyclable. we do not require residents to pre sort, all recyclables can be accepted at the same time. The city also offers additional recycling or bulk recycling the 3rd Sunday of every month.

Livable City Initiative (LCI) has staff on hand daily during the Covid-19 crisis. Our office is currently operating on an “Appointment only” Schedule.

The City of New Haven has launched its New Haven Emergency Housing Response through the City of Haven’s Livable City Initiative to assist New Haven residents experiencing housing insecurity caused by COVID-19.

Coronavirus Assistance and Security Tenant Landlord Emergency Program (CASTLE)

The City of New Haven Coronavirus Assistance and Security Tenant Landlord Emergency Program (“CASTLE”),will assist tenants and homeowners in New Haven who have experienced income loss due to Covid-19 and are experiencing housing insecurity.

The Livable City Initiative (LCI) is a neighborhood-focused agency with a mission to enhance the experience of the individuals who live and work in the City of New Haven. We achieve this mission and vision by encouraging the involvement of other city agencies, the public and enterprise. Through the cooperative efforts of the private sector, we will create a vibrant and exciting New Haven.

LCI seeks to accomplish this mission through:

  • Enforcement of the city's housing code and public space requirements.
  • Design and implementation of housing programs to support high quality, affordable, and energy efficient housing opportunities.
  • Educating and increasing awareness on solutions for neighborhood concerns.
  • Design and implementation of public improvements and programs to facilitate safer, healthier, and more attractive communities.
